Two blocks from my house is the Alpine Trail. There are some serious boulders out there that don't see many (if any) climbers due to their precarious location. My buddy Mark Mellette took us out the other day on a little boulder recon.
If you want to see some action of Mark climbing, check out this little mini-doc called Sanctuary
A year ago my co-conspirator Marcelo Quarantotto and I began a project to document our friends and the secret spots they love to escape to. We decided to call the project Sanctuary. With this, our inaugural mini-doc, Mark takes us to his favorite bouldering spot and explains why this place is so very dear to his heart.
I spent some time in Austin, TX recently on a self-prescribed yoga sabbatical (it's cool I promise, Russell Brand does it). One day while I was wandering around East Austin taking pictures of graffiti that no one will ever see, I stumbled upon a little boutique in this Mexican neighborhood called Charm School Vintage.
Enter Shari Gerstenberger.
Shari is the owner of Charm School Vintage, but she is also much more. To paint you a picture: imagine a beautiful red headed gypsy queen with a perfectly refined charm in her voice, a legion of beautiful model-friends and Lana Del Rey's wardrobe. Shari runs a vintage boutique, hosts numerous music and art events in Austin, is a stylist, photographer, art director etc. etc.
After meeting and sizing each other up (and upon my insistence) it was pretty clear we had a great creative chemistry and that we needed to make something together pronto. So, we came up with some quick concepts, rounded up some of Shari's beautiful friends (below is photographer/model Ceci Alejandra).
We wanted to have intention with this shoot, so we ended up using several amazing pieces of jewelry that Shari had recently received from Ax + Apple. With these beautiful pieces and Shari's adept styling, we were able to make a no-budget collaboration look fantastic.
